The South African Menopause Society (SAMS) is one of South Africa's leading nonprofit organizations that is dedicated to promoting women's health during midlife and beyond, through the understanding of menopause. It boasts a membership of over 190 leaders in the field (including clinical and basic science experts from medicine, nursing, sociology, psychology, nutrition, anthropology, epidemiology, and education). This allows SAMS to be the dominant resource on all aspects of menopause to both healthcare providers and the public.
New guidelines on postmenopausal hormone therapy from the International Menopause Society were released on 27 February 2007, and are now available for your information. Read them by visiting the IMS website.
To help meet its objectives, SAMS organizes regular scientific meetings featuring acknowledged experts in the field. As part of its mission to foster quality research, SAMS is in the process of developing a system of awards and grants.
With a multidisciplinary membership of menopause experts from diverse healthcare fields, SAMS is uniquely qualified to provide for consumers a wide range of menopause-related information that is both accurate and well-balanced, presented without bias for or against any point of view.
Those with access to the Internet will find quite a bit of helpful information within the SAMS Web site -- and the bulk of the site is open to all who visit.
